Connecticut Weekend

View Farmington River Paddle in a larger map

Memorial Day long weekend and we decided to come up to Ct for some paddling. I forgot to bring my camera;I picked up my video camera by mistake. That's what comes from racing off after work on Friday. Still we had a good trip up here, we took back roads all the way and avoided traffic as a result. It took four hours to get to Farmington, but that included stopping for a leisurely dinner on the way.

I spent the Saturday on the Farmington River . Put in at Farmington where Route 4 crosses the river .
Bruce dropped me off, so I was able to paddle downstream all the way.  The current was moving pretty fast sot the paddling was easy.
Highlights included teaching a duckling to fly. As seen here on the vid, the duckling was trying desperately to get away from me, but he couldn't take off. He  kept scooting across the river in front of me. Each time he tried to get away, he just moved ahead of me . Eventually he started to get airborne for short periods of tie. The, after about ten minutes he actually took off and flew up into the trees on the bank.

A little later I  came across a bank beaver  eating on the side of the river. As a beaver fan, it made my day.

There were not a lot of houses on the river, but there were a few places, but this little cabin would  do me .
I took out at Route 185.
A nice flatwater paddle all the way.
