Passaic River Eagle Rock Rd- Up and Downstream June 10th 2012

Had a beautiful day out, although only for a couple of hours. I have still not made it from Eagle Rock Rd to Bloomfield Ave. I did this section starting at Bloomfield Rd twice in the winter and each time became diverted from the main channel amid the very high water levels. Today I tried from the south only to be blocked by fallen timber and a very low tide. It is debatable if I could have gone on if the tide was high, I suspect so, but cannot be sure. Will have to give it another go. Having only paddled this river in the winter (apart from the recent Memorial Day), I was blown away by how beautiful it was. It was also very peaceful on this stretch- no car noises once I paddled under I280.
Having been stymied by the strainers, I turned around and headed a ways upstream. Also very lovely. There were birds a plenty and several young deer. The turtles were all out enjoying the sunshine too.
