Manistique River Michigan UP

This summer we spent 4 weeks on the UP (Upper Peninsula) of Michigan. What a great place for kayaking. I decided to try out  few rivers and started with the Manistique. The  area received 6" of rain just before we arrived, and the river was running very fast. I paddled here last year, so I knew that it would be OK for a paddle, despite the flow. Last year this section took me 2 hours 45 min. (and I paddled pretty full on.) This year 2 hours 20 (and I took it pretty easy).
The rest area adjacent to the put in just south of Germfask

M77 bridge just beyond the put in

This section of the river runs right through the Seney National Wildlife refuge ( Alas, I saw very little wildlife)

The most welcome sight- Bruce at the take out

Mead Creek Take Out .  We camped here  a few nights using it  as a base camp for exploring the river
It was a fun paddle, plenty of current made it so easy.  A great flatwater paddle.
