Martis Creek Lake, Truckee CA

Martis Creek Lake
It’s been a while coming, but summer is here and after 10 months of almost no paddling and incessant work, I am off on vacation . We drove out west, picking up I 80 3 miles from home and taking it all the way to San Francisco. Apart from spending one day off just out from Truckee, just inside the Ca. border and two great days with our friends Larry and Barbara in Sacramento, we drove everyday (about 400 miles) taking 8 days to Sacramento. A quick flight home to Oz and finally we are back in California and out in the great outdoors. The first paddle in California was on the drive across just out from Truckee at a Lake called Martis Creek lake. Built by the Army Corps of Engineers to reduce flooding in the Truckee River, it's a tiny lake in an open area; not much of a paddle but it was a joy to be on the water again.
